Guestbook

We love to read what our guests and their dogs think about their holiday at Whitebeam Wood, if you have stayed with us we would really appreciate it if you could leave a review for us.

Thank you!

Emma & Richard

I have added all these reviews and photos of our guests' dogs if we have them to this album on Facebook as it is also a place for me to thank your guests publicly for their thoughts. I of course also email you if you have been so kind as to leave us a review.

We only take direct bookings, which means you do not pay a booking fee and we do not build in commission we would have to pay a booking website to be listed. This means that you will not be able to find us or reviews for us on websites such as Trip Advisor, Booking.com, or Airbnb.

The vast majority of our reviews are on here and some on Facebook and Google

Staying at Whitebeam was a great experience. They really thought of everything for both the human and dog guests, and the local beaches are fantastic. There are also some lovely coastal walks on your doorstep. We would definitely come back again!

LK,

We had a wonderful time at Whitebeam wood. The house was brilliant with plenty of space for everyone. We had 4 generations of our family together, my parents, our son and daughter with their partners and our 5 month old granddaughter as well as all the dogs. The dogs loved the garden, it was perfect. Looking forward to returning next year!

Jayne,

We’ve had a fabulous week at Whitebeam Wood for David’s 60th birthday. Children and grandchildren joined us from Friday night to Sunday morning including two who “dropped in” from Uni for the weekend. Thankfully able to book additional room at the local pub for two nights for guests!
They all absolutely loved the house and walked around every room, before exploring the garden…which Bella our GSD loved! Don’t think she could understand it was all hers to explore 🙂
After Saturday brunch and the suns shining, it was a walk to the beach. Son & son-in-law then found no themselves at the pub and also managed to buy six freshly cooked pasties!
Birthday meal Saturday night was pasta, pizzas and chilli with garlic bread and French bread.
They drank a lot, played music and your kitchen is definitely made for dancing in!
The family left Sunday morning and we chilled out….log fire every evening was perfect. Definitely recommend the house for a get-together 🙂

David & Pauline Watts,

We have just had a wonderful week at Whitebeam. The weather hasn't been the kindest but who cares when you're staying in such a beautiful house with plenty to do or just do nothing in front of the log burner. We were a family of 6 adults, 2 children (2&6) and 4 dogs.
The house has so much space, gorgeous comfy lounge, bedrooms each have great bathrooms and such a well stocked kitchen. I think I got my 10,000 steps in just walking round the house each day.
The grandchildren thought it was amazing, we had great games of hide and seek. The garden is lovely, our one glorious day we actually got sunburnt sat up on one of the many seating areas. It was so peaceful listening to the birds, watching ships pass by and the dogs rolling in the grass. Priceless moments.
The area is stunning, lovely clean beach, nice community shop and great fish and chips at the pub in torcross.
Driving round the village isn't for the faint hearted but the beach is a nice walk and so if you can walk more I would. This wouldn't put me off as everything else outweighs this. Been home a day and already missing it!!
It's been a lovely holiday for us making very valuable memories, thank you. We would love to return at some point.

Susan Williams ,

Dog and Dash Adventures, a local 3 acre dog park, are very happy to support local businesses who are so welcoming and accommodating to dogs and their owners. We were so pleased to hear someone gets it! Dogs are family members and the local area is perfect to explore and enjoy what the south hams has to offer with them. The accommodation has thought of everything to make sure you and your doggos stay is enjoyable and relaxing. Their online site is informative and supportive of local dog welcoming business including ours, such an asset for the area.

Dog & Dash Adventures ,

Our second year at Whitebeam and definitely worth returning, our three dogs all throughly enjoyed the gardens and wood, they just love the peaceful nature of the property and the fact they can explore freely and experience this really makes us humans feel so relaxed and chilled. I totally recommend this holiday home for anyone with multiple dogs.

Michelle Green,

Our first visit to Devon last week at Whitebeam Wood was a great experience. We loved the house which is beautifully decorated and so well equipped. Our dog really enjoyed the freedom of being able to roam the gardens without worrying about passing people or other dogs. She struggles to settle in new places so the flexible layout and multiple entrances to the house was perfect to help her build confidence. We will definitely be back!

Amanda S,

We, a family of six and three generations, have just returned from our first holiday at Whitebeam. The house is very well furnished and clean. It fully met the requirements of everyone, from the well equipped kitchen, the very comfortable, relaxing lounge, the ensuite bedrooms, and the games room, with the table tennis table being a particular hit with everyone! Also there are indoor games for the younger ones, quiz mats to keep the older ones amused over dinner, and the cooking of marshmallows over the fire pit for everyone. Or you can just sit and relax while taking in the beautiful views.

A very enjoyable family holiday, despite the inclement weather! We hope to return.

Pat

Pat Chapman,

We have just returned from our first stay at Whitebeam, after visiting Rill house twice before. The house is in a beautiful quiet village and has outstanding views over the village, Slapton Sea and Start Point Lighthouse . The house is extremely large and has been well thought out through out. There is plenty of space for everyone to chill out and relax both in side the house and outside.
The dogs loved the freedom of the very large garden even though, we had 5 cocker spaniels and three Basset Hounds in our party, there was plenty of space for them all to roam about and we didn't have to worry about them escaping from the garden, due to the high fences placed around the garden.
We dined in most evenings and had the benefit of the double ovens and the accessories (which were plenty) to even cook a Sunday dinner and the family loved toasting the marshmallows on the fire pit too, !
From the village there is a nice walk around Slapton Ley and further a field we went a walk to Torcross Beach and ate the best crab sandwiches at The Billy Can.
Strete, in the other direction, is a quite beach with a kiosk that sell amazing cakes and coffee.
We found people in the village very welcoming and the local village shop very handy , we travelled to Dartmouth on the local bus service with the dogs and both Salcombe and Hope Cove in the car.
We definitely will return !

TRACY MORRIS,

Emma has really made Whitebeam Wood a home from home! The house is so beautiful and stunningly decorated. There isn’t anything that you wouldn’t have in your own home.

We had 5 adults, 2 young children and 2 dogs and we were all comfortable. I have never had a more comfortable bed whilst being on holiday!!

Also anything that you need was either accessible on the online guide or Emma was just a message away.

Oh and the dogs absolutely loved running around the property and we had no worries about them getting out!

Thank you so much Emma!

Charlie Burchill,

We had such a lovely time at Whitebeam Wood, from the moment we arrived we felt able to relax as the garden is totally secure and perfect for our 5 pooches to play and relax in. The inside and outside of the house has been well thought out, with various spots getting the sun and shade at different times of the day. We used the garden room as our bedroom which was perfect to be able to let our 2 out first thing, as they are early risers, without disturbing the rest of the house. Our friends used the lighthouse suite which was absolutely massive. The living space is amazing, a massive, well equipped kitchen, big table and lots of comfy seats. We spent so much time outside in the garden, whether it was morning coffee on the balcony, reading on the lookout, a bbq in the secret garden, or cocktails on the sun terrace.

The village was beautiful as well and we enjoyed the Queen’s Arms food and drink several times, as well as using the well-stocked community shop and going for walks on the beach and Slapton Ley.

It was such a lovely relaxing break that none of us wanted to leave! We will be back!

Kate Bleazard ,

We recently visited Whitebeam Wood for the second time, this time with our son and mum in law and had such an amazing time. The weather was especially kind to us enabling us to sit and dine outside on multiple occasions.

The house is still fab, very comfortable and very well equipped and the dog loved the outside space and we cannot wait to visit again soon. X

K Cushion,

We've had a fabulous week at Whitebeam Wood - for health reasons we couldn't get out and about much and this property was ideal to allow us to enjoy our holiday regardless. Being able to let our 3 dogs with very varying energy levels explore the grounds each at their own pace while we enjoyed the views and listened to the birds was relaxing and just what the doctor ordered. The extensive guide book provided was particularly welcome, helping us to work out where to shop and eat. The property is lovely and we'd definitely recommend it, particularly for families/groups with multiple dogs who can often find it hard to locate places with suitable grounds that will take 3+ dogs.

Sarah & James,

We have had a wonderful week again at Whitebeam. The house is just a wonderful place to relax. It is fab being able to walk to the beach from the house. The surrounding area is fabulous to explore and it’s great not having to drive for hours to visit different places, we just walked the coastal path. We visited lots of new beaches and places to eat, although we still have plenty more to see, as we have barely touched Emma’s wonderful recommendations. Holidaying at Whitebeam is an experience you will want to repeat.

D Brentnall,

We had a wonderful week at Whitebeam Cottage - 3 dogs and their 3 humans, plus a short weekend visit from another 3 people.

The location is perfect for the beautiful Slapton Sands beaches, Dartmouth, Salcombe and other places of interest.

The cottage itself had everything you need, the beds and furniture are comfortable and the gardens are spectacular! Mum and I were in awe of the well established flowers and shrubs throughout the woods.

We enjoyed sitting by the fire pit and lookout seating area with a cuppa in the sun, listening to the gulls and songbirds, admiring the views.

The dogs are shattered!! They have thoroughly enjoyed themselves, sniffing and zooming around the garden.

The Beehive bedroom was perfect for me as the dogs are partial to a midnight wee (🤦‍♀️) so being able to quickly let them out knowing they werent able to go for a jolly in the woods was great.

Fish and chips from the village pub on the beach (Torcross) was quick service and we scooted back up the lanes to enjoy at home.

Driving in Devon is not for the faint hearted!! I was happy to follow a tractor a couple of times as other drivers reversed to let us pass when needed.

All in all, a great holiday, with great company in a wonderful house.

Thanks to Emma and the Team who maintain it for us all to enjoy. Oh, and how can I forget the place mats! They kept us entertained for a while whilst enjoying a glass of wine.

L Mcintyre,

Absolutely brilliant again - our second Easter spent at Whitebeam we loved it just as much, managed another Easter Egg hunt in the amazing gardens and a lovely family meal on Easter Sunday on the incredible kitchen. Lovely meals at the Queens Arms in Slapton and the Cricket Inn at Beesands highly recommended. Slightly mixed weather this time but we still managed to have incredible walks, an evening BBQ and night around the fire pit. Can’t recommend this house and area enough.
Great family time and once again taking home 3 very tired but happy dogs. Thank you for everything Lorraine, Andy, Dominic, Jess, Josh, Emily, and most importantly Bella 🐾 Ted 🐾 & Ralph 🐾 xx

Lorraine Milton,

Wow everything about this place is just perfect. We have had the most amazing week. We have 2 large dogs one can be reactive/nervous and one has epilepsy so we have never found anywhere before that we felt safe and suitable enough to go, until we found whitebeam. They roamed the gardens all day completely safe and enjoyed relaxing in the house.
The house is beautiful with everything you need and more, you can really see the love they have put into it. Later in the week my 2 nephews arrived 8 and 10 and they also had the best time so much around to do even in February including swimming in the sea, going on a boat, enjoying an escape room. They are currently enjoying Paignton zoo while I’m sitting in the garden with their dog reading a book in the sun ☀️ how fabulous. So many good places to eat around here including the local pub and the artisan pizza lots of gluten free choices as we have a celiac in the family. We have loved every minute so much that we have booked again for next year. Thank you so much Whitebeam team you have a regular visitor now for many years to come I hope.
Victoria Shepherd

Vicky Shepherd,

We had a wonderful time at Whitebeam Wood, with 12 dogs and their 6 pawrents ! The house is beautiful, very well equipped everything is thought of, even a doggy shower, we have one at home - invaluable. Beautiful setting, just half a mile from the beach and a short drive to a beautiful cove. Dogs loved explore garden and even the little ones were safe, nowhere to escape from.

Deborah Rule,

We've had a wonderful week at Whitebeam Wood. The house is absolutely beautiful, and has been filled with just about everything you could possibly need! The house is exceptionally spacious and comfortable, and the extra spaces like the utility/laundry room and the games room were great; we had several table tennis tournaments!

Our dog, Hopper, had a fabulous time exploring the gardens, and on lovely walks in and around Slapton. We spotted a seal from Slapton Sands on our first day, and also enjoyed beaches at Blackpool Sands (beautiful!) and Strete. He also helped us out at Darmouths Escape Room HQ!

We had a small supermarket delivery of essentials, but did most of our shopping in the Stokely Farm Shop and in the Slapton Village Community Shop - both highly recommended.

We ate at the Stokely Farm cafe which was really lovely, although go on a nice day as dogs are only allowed in the outdoor (covered) area. We also enjoyed a couple of meals at the village pub The Queens Arms, where Hopper was made very welcome.

It's been a wonderfully relaxing holiday...We've already booked for next year...

Kylie Sheppard,

What a superb place for dog owners very well catered for and extra freezer for raw feeders. Dogs (all 12) loved the garden, so many aspects to it to keep them interested in sniffing and exploring. Would love to visit again the best sleep ever the beds and pillows and quilts are just the best. The kitchen facilities and equipment has everything except a tea pot 😉 yes some of us like loose tea. Was sorry we didn't book a longer stay

Kim Martin,

A wonderful house and garden both for humans and dogs!

Fantastic bedrooms and bathrooms and probably the most well equipped kitchen we’ve come across in any holiday home. Lovely sized garden which is entirely well fenced and provided some great sniffs for our hounds.

The Queens Arms just down the lane does some nice pub grub which is available to takeaway if, like us, you have any dogs who won’t sit quietly in a pub

Ben Joy,

We have just had a very relaxing week at Whitebeam Wood. The house is just perfect and the garden was great for our rescue dogs. The older dogs loved sniffing and exploring while the younger ones chased each other around the spacious garden. It’s so peaceful with stunning views from the house and garden. I bet it is fantastic in the summer!

The only problem is that one week just wasn’t enough!

Tracy Settle,

We have just got home from a lovely week in a wonderful, truly dog friendly house. Our two spaniels absolutely loved the garden, they ran full length at top speed and back again! It was so nice to be able to open the car and let the dogs out without worrying.
The house is beautiful, the views lovely, very comfortable and would make a super place for a large gathering.

Debbie Page,

Stayed 7th October for a week with friends and their 5 hounds. The house was amazing, I felt like I knew it already having watched the live videos so many times - beautiful bedrooms, stunning kitchen and that comfy lounge with ample sofa space for humans and dogs to snuggle. Loads of walking opportunities, some easy and others very "challenging" only a short drive away. One of the highlights, a hilarious games session in the basement games room. A highly competitive game of foosball followed by a very energetic game of table tennis (aka wifwaf) ably assisted by Goat the terrier who made a fabulous ball-dog. I've never laughed so hard! Would love to return one day, if only to just try the food at the Tower, we sadly ran out of time!

Debbie and Paul Kibble,

We have just returned from a wonderful week ! The weather has been amazing and the house and village of Slapton were both wonderful.Due to Covid and business issues two of our friends and their dogs could not make it - so it was left to us 5 adults and 5 dogs. We too went on the Dartmouth Steam Railway with the dogs and returned in the observation car which we had to ourselves. We had a trip to Totnes - what a lovely and interesting town. The PieShop restaurant was great and dog friendly. The castle was very interesting too. We had some epic walks along the coastal path and cliff tops. Visiting the Pigs Nose pub at East Prawle for one refreshment break and on our longest walk we discovered the Soar Cove Hotel after some leg testing uphill walks and we were ready for some beer served with truly breathtaking views of the cove.
The Start Bay Inn was good pub food again very dog friendly as is the Queens Arms as others have said. The Tower was open on our last evening and unbeknown to us was serving food. The menu looked wonderful and the atmospheric pub a delight.Next time ! Do not miss the community shop - for lovely croissants and the Sunday papers as well as freshly baked pasties for the journey home.Another mention for Stokesley farm shop - fabulous and Keith was blown away by the South Hams Brewery and the thirds of different beer to try. The house is wonderful - very well equipped too - thank you for having us all ! Angela Keith Rob Debbie and Paul - not forgetting Luigi,Nora,Patzi,Lottie and Goat !

Angela Wilkin,

Great house with a huge garden, plenty of hangout/eating areas too- sadly it rained all week so we only got to try the fire pit once. Slapton Sands is only a 20 minute walk, the village has two great pubs and a little shop too. Stokely Farm Shop was amazing too, for shopping and a fry-up. There’s plenty to do in the area too, we enjoyed the steam train to Paignton and back.
The house was perfect for the six dogs, especially as they’re all raw fed, so having a utility room for their food and “stuff” was great. Plus they loved the freedom of the large garden, obviously!
If you struggle to find dog friendly places to stay, definitely check this one out!

Charlotte Long,

Whitebeam is amazing! love the house, love the gardens, I spent months trying to find somewhere suitable for my three nervous, people and dog selective rescue dogs and Emma was so understanding of what I needed and was right to suggest how perfectly secure and secluded the house is, our dogs settled in really quickly, loved the freedom of the large garden/wooded area to race around in and play chase, but also enjoyed exploring, sniffing and relaxing in such a private and peaceful place. The views, the beautiful rooms and the amazing facilities were perfect in every way. The guidebook for Whitebeam was spot on, the suggested local walks were fab, our favourite being Bantham to Thurlestone with its stunning scenery. My dogs are very happy and content here and I would recommend to anyone with nervous or reactive dogs. We will definitely be returning next year ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🐾🐾🐾

Michelle Green,

Wow! Wow! Wow!
We have just arrived home from a weeks stay at Whitebeam, there were 5 adults, 3 children and 4 dogs.
There are 4 lovely spacious bedrooms all with their own bathrooms, the open plan lounge kitchen is amazing, the games room is a lovely addition and the outdoor space is perfect. We have a Jack Russell terrier and it was so lovely to be able to let her run free with out worry of her escaping, she really was living her best life running around and exploring. We had two bbqs during the week we were there the terrace has some beautiful views. The fire pit was perfect and the kids and adults loved toasting marshmallows.
The attention to detail is just wonderful. The kids loved making the doggie biscuits and the doggies loved eating them, the Prosecco went down a treat with the adults and marshmallows were a big hit with us all.
The guide book that has been put together is so useful, this is the first time we have been to slapton so didn’t know the area well.
Slapton beach is just a 15 minute walk away and if your lucky you get to see seals we did on both occasions. The Queens Arms pub in the village does lovely food but it does get busy so you may have a wait, but it’s worth it. There is a small village shop that is well stocked with essentials about 5- 10 minutes walk but it does close at 1pm each day.
We have been to a few holiday homes over the years with the kids and dogs and I have to say this is the best one yet, we would definitely return again.
I highly recommend Whitebeam 😊

Emma Turley ,

We had a fabulous week in August at Whitebeam Wood. Our venue was changed at the last minute by Emma due to an accident at their other property, but how lucky were we! The property is spacious and beautifully appointed with all the furnishings and equipment of the highest quality. The kitchen has everything you could possibly want, should you wish to do much cooking on holiday 😆. We were blessed with a week of scorching sunshine, but had the weather been bad there is plenty for both adults and children to keep them occupied. So safe and secure for dogs too.
One word of advice: The Tower Pub only has a limited service for food at the moment so The Queen’s Arms gets very busy and you need to get there early if you wish to eat. We saw a few groups disappointed that they could not get any food, and most of the other local pubs that you can drive to only take bookings.

Susan Manchester,

Our first visit to Whitebeam Wood, 17th to 24th June, and what a delight. Firstly the garden is totally secure so you have no need to worry about the four legged friends, and ample room for them to enjoy lots of freedom. The house is beautifully dressed and offers you everything you could want from a peaceful, and we do mean peaceful, break. The views from the BBQ area are just wonderful, looking out to sea with a lovely glass of something and a meal, using locally sourced ingredients, cooked to perfection on the BBQ (Can't beat a charcoal BBQ - what is the rush - have another glass of something while waiting for a meal to savour !! ) With respect to the owners the photographs of the house do not, in our humble opinion, do it justice.
You really would find it difficult to beat everything Whitebeam has to offer as an ideal break.

Bruce & Elaine Davies,

We have just had an amazing holiday at the fantastic Whitebeam Wood. Six adults, a baby and four dogs. The facilities are five star with everything you could possibly need. There is so much space to chill out in and at times we had to send the dogs to find each other. No expense has been spared in upgrading this property which we would recommend without hesitation. The garden is secure, huge and was brilliant for recall training and the dogs loved it. Would we stay again - just got to find a date when we can all make it.

Alan Smart,

We have just thoroughly enjoyed a weeks break with friends at whitebeam wood. The attention to doggy detail is extraordinary! From a little box to make doggy biscuits, bowls and towels, doggy showers and a fridge/ freezer for dog food was amazing. The garden was an absolute dream for the dogs and we had such fun playing hide and seek. Happy dogs, happy families. We look forward to returning. ☀️

Nicola Donovan ,

My husband, myself and our 2 dogs have just enjoyed a fabulous week at Whitebeam Wood.
We arrived in the area very early so went for a walk on Slapton Beach and also around Slapton Ley nature reserve. Both within walking distance from the house.
The drive upto to the house is impressive in itself and having followed Emma online throughout the renovations you can see how much work has been put into the house and the grounds. Clearly the grounds are an ongoing project but the dogs loved wandering around and knowing the whole garden was secure and that we didn’t have to worry about them was great.
We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and welcomed the home comforts and space to just relax, as clearly alot of thought has gone into providing for the guests. The surrounding views and peace and quiet are amazing and will definitely be coming back next year.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property.

Karen Cushion,

Had an amazing weeks holiday at Whitebeam. A lot of thought has gone into finishing this house, from all the pots and pans to the luxurious bed linen and towels. You are spoilt with so many choices of fab places to sit in the garden as well as indoors as each has a fabulous view. Not all of the garden is flat but it is absolutely huge and all secure. So much to see and do locally, a lot of it is within walking distance from the house. The local guide that Emma has put together is extremely useful for food, beaches and general walks, we still have so many of her suggestions to try. We had a lovely walk round the Dartington trust estate, several fab beach walks and the beer garden at the queens arms is a fabulous space for food or an early evening drink. We throughly enjoyed our week and can’t wait to return. A holiday at Whitebeam will not leave you disappointed we rebooked for next year before we came home. Can’t wait to try more of the recommendations that are a bit further afield and look forward to seeing how the garden flowers progress too.

Debbie brentnall,

Had an absolutely amazing time with family friends and our 3 dogs Bella Ted & Ralph think they thought they were in heaven with all the freedom in your beautiful garden. What an amazing place for an Easter Egg hunt followed by Sunday roast in the stunning kitchen. Long walks on the beach, the Ley and the SW coastal path means we are taking 3 very tired happy dogs home. Whitebeam Wood is a stunning immaculate home from home which we definitely didn’t want to leave today. Thankyou for a lovely holiday Lorraine & Andy xx

L Milton,

We all had a fantastic time at Whitebeam - you really have thought of everything! Our three dogs enjoyed exploring the fully enclosed garden as well as the many beautiful beaches nearby. The fire pit was a huge hit with the children, who relished toasting marshmallows in the evenings as well as having ping pong tournaments in the games room. Thank you so much, would thoroughly recommend and hope to come back again

J Wickes,

Myself and my family were the first guests to stay at Whitebeam and we had the most amazing time with our 9 dogs. The renovation is superb and there is so much space indoors and out! It's a short walk to the beach (or car if you prefer) with plenty of country walks to enjoy. Everything you could wish for if you're looking for a dog friendly family holiday (they even have dog bowls and towels if you forget yours!). The open plan kitchen is huge with all the tools and gadgets you need for cooking and baking!
I would 100% recommend and we will definitely be back to stay again!

Liberty Willis,

Well what can I say.. what a lovely place to come and stay. Whitebeam is beautiful very homely and had everything that was needed. The kitchen had everything and we had some great meals cooked in it. Our nine dogs loved every second. The walks are amazing. The week just went too quickly. Thank you for letting us be the first ones in.
